This module addresses tank selection, capacity, structural integrity, durability, watertightness, access and local groundwater conditions, while distinguishing septic tanks that provide primary treatment from sealed holding tanks used for temporary wastewater storage.
Evaluate alternatives for sites where conventional absorption is unsuitable, including aerobic treatment units, mound systems and other enhanced-treatment arrangements. The module also addresses cesspools and provisional systems, explaining their highly restricted and temporary use, authority approval, monitoring, environmental safeguards and mandatory decommissioning when a permanent solution becomes available.
Bring the installed system through testing, inspection and operational approval, including watertightness and pressure verification, inspection scheduling, compliance records and MePS close-out requirements. The module then extends into long-term responsibilities covering service contracts, routine inspections, monitoring, ADSWS audits, failure response, system upgrades and eventual decommissioning.
